Sydney Washington, M.S., CMPC®
Sydney Washington completed her undergraduate degree at California State University, Fullerton, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Kinesiology. While at Fullerton, she conducted qualitative research examining mental health symptoms and post-concussion depression in collegiate football players. In addition, she explored the relationship between stereotype threat and learning to promote awareness of marginalized groups’ implicit tendencies in their development. During her undergraduate studies, she also completed internships at UC Berkeley and UCLA, where she studied neuroanatomy and cognitive functioning in patients with traumatic brain injuries.
Sydney earned her Master of Science in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, where she graduated with high honors and received the Kinesiology Department’s Thesis Award for her research titled Reinjury Anxiety and Body Dissatisfaction in Female Collegiate Athletes. Sydney is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and an active member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She is currently a practicing mental performance consultant for track and field and girls’ volleyball at IMG Academy and is actively involved in case study research.
Sydney’s consulting philosophy is rooted in faith, where joy and character are fundamental, and discipline is required to pursue excellence. Sydney values being in alignment with purpose, connecting with others, and becoming a woman of integrity. These values are reflected in her work with clients by cultivating their autonomy, relatedness, and competence through her person-first approach. She believes greatness is a practice—not an identity, destination, or feeling. It shows up in how someone lives their values, prepares with intention, pursues improvement, and takes time to recover. When working with athletes, her goals are to question more than she instructs, incorporate objective and subjective data, and simplify thoughts so athletes feel in control of their performance.
Outside of work, Sydney loves exercising, specifically strength training, long walks, jogging, beach volleyball, and pickleball. She also enjoys learning about wellness, attending church and women’s Bible studies, and stimulating her mind by reading and playing New York Times games!
